Supporting first-time college-going, low-income, and students of color as they prepare for and transition to college requires a warm and intentional handoff. The pandemic only increased the need for a strong, cross-disciplinary, coordinated care approach that includes on- and off-campus support teams. How can educators, colleges, and college access partners best provide these essential navigation resources? What do we know about students’ experiences with summer melt and why the warm hand-off is so critical to success?

The Northern California College Promise Coalition (NCCPC) and members Beyond12, OneGoal Bay Area, Richmond Promise, and Stockton Scholars will demonstrate how they combat summer melt through data-informed, student-centered programming. NCCPC and members will also explore how data-sharing with campus partners like Cal State East Bay can streamline financial and programmatic support, even in a pandemic. We’ll explore how together, we hope to see the lessening and then elimination of wage and wealth disparities in California by using this collective impact approach as a model for other regions and states.
